Curios – Objects of art valued as collector items, especially something fascinating or unusual.
“Curios” is Andrew Hyra’s newly released collection of acoustic / rock songs written and recorded by Hyra during his decade-long “nomadic phase” – artfully mastered by Grammy Award-winner Don McCollister of Atlanta’s Nickel and Dime Studios in Atlanta. Listeners will be treated to a rich mix of harmonies, amazing vocal performances, and rhythmic melodies. The album features guest performance by Matthew Sweet, Susanna Hoffs, and Sugarland’s Kristian and Brandon Bush.
Hyra named the album Curios, because he feels this particular collection of songs is akin to visiting a curios shop — where you get a sampling of a wide range of unique collectibles, each with a history all its own and bearing little resemblance to the object next to it.
“I had these songs stored away, some old, some new, but largely unheard. Luckily time has helped me cast them in a new light. I’m grateful for the supportive people in my life that helped me bring them back to life, bring me back to life as an artist,” said Hyra.
“Producing Curios was really freeing and fun for me. I had lots of time to collaborate with some great people, to be creative outside of the breakneck pace that I had experienced while with Atlantic. I feel like I recaptured the innocent and fun part of putting an album together that had really inspired me when I first found my voice.”
Hyra was founding member of melodic folk/rock duo Billy Pilgrim, with Kristian Bush of present day Sugarland fame. Hyra and Bush were Atlantic recording artists with MTV and VH1 appearances, and shared the stage with such artists as Melissa Ethridge, John Mayer, Shawn Mullins, Cowboy Junkies and Richard Thompson.
